Service Description

A 6-hour course over 2 consecutive Saturday sessions, from 1:00-4:00pm, starting April 6, 2019. Class dates are Saturdays: 4/6 & 4/13. This course will explore the art of toy making. Students will be guided through the design process of observation, brainstorming, prototyping, and implementation. Using a variety of materials and construction techniques, students will design and create their own original toy, demonstrating their unique artistic aesthetic. This course is a good fit for mature elementary students through middle school grades. All art classes are personalized based on your child's interests and goals, and are taught by experienced educator Jessi Almstead, from her home studio. All art materials are included, as well as a healthy non-allergenic snack. During this course, your young artist will: - Create an original toy to take home - Apply focused practice to relevant technical skills of drawing, sculpting, building, and sewing - Apply design thinking, problem-solving, mathematical, and engineering skills to their project - Express their unique point of view and refine their personal style through the creation of an original piece - Learn how to create a product that fills a consumer need or want - Observe and reflect upon a selection of relevant examples of successful toy design/designers - Have fun and build confidence by taking an original idea through the design process!
